(Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh......don't tell my husband!)

Wow! I've had the most amazing week! Four super sweaty gym workouts, some great walks, fab food and a fantastic day in Dorking with fellow Dorks. (More about the Dorks on Thursday!). I can really see my body is looking stronger and I am feeling taller. What a brilliant way to feel about life! This is so wonderful for me as to be fair I have truly had some major downs in my life, some almost destroyed my will to live, but do you know what? A little hope kept sparking within me and kept me going until I was strong enough to take the bull by the horns and grab life back on my terms. And boy have I finally done it!
You may wonder why I'm telling you all this and baring my soul...............................It's because no matter how we appear in public we all have gremlins and knock backs and I want you to know that you can recover from them and deal with them so that you too can live the life you want. You may not believe it but I do know that the answer lays with great food to nourish the body and mind, exercise and my added extra, the love of my Husband,Children and Grandchildren. If you are ready or when you are ready to have a fab life keep referring to this blog and also get some great advice from The Wellness Acadmey. BTW I AM NOT BEING PAID OR GAINING ANY BENEFIT (OTHER THAN THE SAME FAB INFO YOU CAN GET) BY RECOMMENDING THEM. I recommend them out of pure passion and the knowledge that they aren't faddy or out to make money from peoples insecurities. They just offer the truth so that when you are ready you too can join in the "great life club". Can you feel the passion?! Baby, I'm on fire on this one!!!!

Beautiful Edamame

Edamame are super foods in my humble opinion! They are full of essential amino acids, great for protein,  low fat and a fab source of fibre. They make a great snack, side dish, appetizer and there are myriad recipes out there to include them as an ingredient. It is normal not to eat the outside shell as it is uber fibrous.
Edamame beans are neither yin or yang foods so will not cause you nutritional distress. Whats not to love?!
Many of you lovely readers may have tried these delicious beans at a japanese restaurant or one of the Japanese food chains but believe me if you make your own at home they take minutes, cost very little and can be pimped to your taste and will taste far superior.
Here's my super quick and easy, super yummy recipe that will enhance to your health and well being;

RECIPE!
Excellent Edamame with Gorgeous Gomassio
Ingredients
Edamame in shells (as many as you want per person, I suggest 100g per person)
Sea salt
For Gomassio
Sea Salt (1 part to 10 parts sesame seeds)
Sesame seeds (white or black)

Method
* Bring a pan of water to the boil with 1 teaspoon of sea salt.Make sure you have enough water to immerse all your beans once water comes to boil)
*Immerse your beans once the water is boiling and cook for about five minutes. Do not leave any longer or they will become mushy, yeuk!
* Remove and drain. If you plan to shell them before you serve place them in ice cold water to stop them cooking any further. When cool shell. otherwise they are ready to serve hot topped with your gorgeous gomassio.
* Whilst your edamame are cooking make your Gomassio.
Gomassio Method
* In a dry heavy based pan toast the sea salt for three minutes. It may go a bit grey but that's fine.
* Remove and add your sesame seeds and toast lightly. Toss regularly to avoid burning. Once they have started popping or have darkened a couple of shades they are ready.
* Remove and mix with toasted salt.
* Using a pestle and mortar or coffee grinder, grind to the texture you know you will love the most.
* Once your lovely beans are ready and are drained, toss them in your mix. I would advise using a teaspoon of Gomassio per two portions. You can always add more toy our own taste but of you put too much on remember you cant take it away!
Notes
* Your Gomassio can be stored in a glass jar in your cupboard quite safely for a good few weeks. Add it to everything!!!!!
* Cooked edamame in shells or podded can be frozen very successfully.
* Keep some in the freezer you have podded so that you make a quick salad or snack.
* If you aren't up to making your own Gomassio you can purchase it online from a wonderful company called The Kind Food Company. They are a small company with a vast range of marvelous macrobiotic foods and more. I love to support them whenever I can.(and yes there is no financial incentive to say this, just the usual Janie Smith Passion to spread the word!).

Edamame snack comparison
Edamame Beans 100 calories 1/2 cup shelled
Peanuts - 431 calories 1/2 cup
Oreo Biscuit - 1 biscuit 160 calories
Walkers Ready Salted Crisps - 25gm 140 calories
never mind the fat contents!

Myth Busters
As you know I love to go out and disprove myths so that YOU can get to the truth about healthy living. Many reports you read online are sponsored by corporate companies with a vested interest in getting you to believe their take on things. It's the same with nearly all the diet industry cookbooks - they are published to make money from YOU and pray on YOUR worries.

The Myth; I need expensive kit and fancy gym membership to be fit.
The Truth: Well I guess if you want expensive gym kit and fancy gym memberships then you can go buy them but unless you actually wear them and use your membership to its best advantage you wont get healthy!
Now, as you know I train all the time, its a really important part of my life but have I spent a fortune on kit? Hell NO!!! Does my kit look good? I'd like to think so!
So where can you get excellent quality comfortable clothes to train in that don't coast a bomb but look fab?
* your supermarket - my cropped lycra leggings cost me a whole £10 and they go in the wash at least four times a week, don't look any different than when I bought them, fit well and look good!
* I invested in a long length vest top from the shop that rhymes with Harks and Farks for £12. I know you can buy cheaper but again mine goes in the wash daily and hasn't shrunk, faded and looks fab.
* my trainer socks are also a supermarket buy - you know 5 pairs for £3. I have to admit I bought them in pink so they match the trim on my leggings! lol! OK, so I'm quite girly at times!!!
* when it comes to trainers I struck lucky. I take a shoe size 5 so can buy from the kids dept! I bought a fabulously comfortable pair of all round use trainers suitable for the gym floor, walking and classes for £35 and they are NIKE! Even if you have to go in to adult sizes and pay the VAT you do not need to spend a fortune. Just find a pair that feel very comfy and support your feet. Don't be sold on expensive trainers unless you absolutely cant live without them. If you are going running you can get great supportive running shoes for well under £100. I find Asics the most comfortable and supportive for running.
* My water bottle was purchased in Planet organic and has a replaceable water filter in it as well as being made of safe materials so that nasties don't leach in to my water. Okay, it cost me £10 but its worth it for the goodness of my health and I cant even begin to put a price on that. If you do use bottled mineral water when you train please DO NOT REUSE your water bottle. It is really unhealthy to you.
Obviously I have a pink one!
The Bobble Bottle

So I do have gym membership, it costs me £26 a month. I saved a fortune by taking the 9-5 option, 7 days a week. It includes, gym, swim and classes! The gym is better furnished than most of the expensive places, has superb facilities including great showers, loos, locker rooms etc. The fitness trainers are always very happy to help with questions and guidance. In fact its all around brilliant! How is it sooooooo inexpensive? It is owned and run by our local borough council! It doesn't have a fancy brand name! Believe me it's the best gym I've ever been to and believe me I've joined all the highfalutin ones!!!!! If you click on Wimbledon Leisure Centre it will give you an idea just what you could find in your local area without breaking the bank! It has been upgraded since the photos were taken and is now super fab, we even have an Elemis Spa!

Of course if a leisure centre isn't your thing why not go for free exercise like walking, cycling, running, skipping, hiking, playing ball games, tennis, swing ball or join a local ramblers group?

So, I hope I have proved you  need top spend a fortune to be fit and healthy. After all its not the kit and the fancy surroundings that make you fit .......its YOU!

I would loooooove to see your bargain kit, why not send me a pic here. I would only pop it on the website if you expressly agree!

The power of Magical Miso!
After several centuries of being a highly revered food/folk remedy in countries such as Japan, Miso has been recognized by modern medical science as being an essential food for excellent health. It is used regularly for digestive ailments, to treat various cancers, radiation sickness and many intestinal infections. It truly is a super well being food. Miso is a live probiotic food that is completely natural without any added nasties. When it is fermented it creates massive amounts of isoflavines which makes its nutrients more accessible to the the gut and also promotes a healthy pH in your system. When you buy the lab created probiotic drinks you are not eating real food and nor are they very effective.
Miso is
* a complete protein with all your amino acid needs
*  a great source of B vitamins, calcium, iron
*  dairy and wheat free
* low in cholesterol
* high in antioxidants
* less sodium than your table slat
* is known to strengthen your immune system

There are a gazillion sorts out there but if you start with a good Clearspring Organic Hatcho Miso for your savoury needs and the Organic Sweet Miso for your sweet recipes, you are on to a winner for amazingly good health. You can buy some great sachets to take to work too.

In Thursdays blog I will be giving you a super easy miso soup recipe that will taste delicious and not taste like the poohey stuff you get in most restaurants! Trust me it is so fragrant and de - lish - ussss.

Monday Madness 23/06/2014 - the most exciting blog yet!

www.amazingcentral.com

OMG! I am so happy today!
Do you want to know how your hormone imbalances affect your weight?
Do you want to ditch the old fashioned diets and actually lose weight and be super fit and healthy?
Do you want to be armed with real honest knowledge to help you sort your issues out?
Look no further! Marlene Watson Tara, the Goddess of all things plant based for great health has written us a super inspiring article for today's blog. Marlene's article this week could be the life changer you need, it certainly has made all the difference to me. I can't praise Marlene enough without sounding like a complete sycophant and stalker but what the heck - she is awesome! You will find her article "Dieting is out, healthy eating is in" further down the blog today.

Weekly Chit Chat!
Soooooooooo, it's that time of year when I become super fit! Not because I've gone to the park to play tennis but because Wimbedon fortnight has begun today and I can't move my car out of the road cos I will never get it back in its' space for the next two weeks! It's good news mind you as I added an extra three miles to my "moving more and chilling less" programme just this morning. SW19 is packed with happy people and there is a great atmosphere about here. It's faaaaab!

As you would expect strawberries are abundant in all the shops here as well as in the tournament grounds! They are great to eat of course and make a great ingredient for skincare! In Thursdays blog I will be featuring some of the recipes that An Apple A Day readers have sent in.
Today I thought you might like a lovely relaxing facial mask recipe. Living a healthy life doesn't just include eating it also includes feeling good about yourself and I know when I do this facial I feel confident cos my skin glows!
Strawberries are fab for skin care because they treat acne, are anti-oxidant, astringent, full of vitamin C, have omega 3 fatty acids and salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is my favourite skin care ingredient and it works! This means your skin will glow, tighten, moisturise and see a reduction in fine lines.

Strawberry Mask for acne, scarring and nixing fine lines.
2 tbsp strawberries mashed to a puree
2 tbsp natural yogurt

Mix the two ingredients together. Cover face with your mix, avoiding the eye area. Leave on for 20 minutes and rinse off with warm water. Moisturise if required. Tada! You look grrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat!

D is for;
Daikon (check out Marlene's fat busting tea recipe in her article)
Dandelion (great with pasta)
Dill (great natural flavour)
Dates (satisfy my sweet needs)
Dasheen

I'm not giving you a recipe today as if you click here you can browse for recipes including daikon from Marlene. Her recipes are tasty, tasty, tasty!

See, DAIKON is something you have seen before!

I will be myth busting again next week as Marlene's article blasts a good few  myths already! Don't forget to read her brilliant piece below!

Move More, Chill a bit less
www.tennis.com.au

Okay, so the England football team weren't too great were they? Talk about over rated and over paid and let's be honest the womens' team is far better. Anyway, the world cup isn't the only sport dominating the TV schedules right now. Living here in Wimbledon there is no escaping all the wannabe tennis players about in Wimbledon Park! Now whilst it always amuses me how they come out to play for a fortnight, tennis is actually an amazing sport to take up. Granted we probably aren't going to play like Sharapova but just playing is going to give us the following enormous benefits:
* moving is fab for the body and mind
* its for any age group and any level of fitness (so what's your excuse?!)
* it decreases  the risk of heart disease (3 x more women died from heart disease than breast cancer)
* your flexibility and co-ordination will improve (no need to have to rely on a man for help)
* boosts your brain power (ok, so we are already owners of powerful brains!)
* increases your bone health (who wants to develop osteoporosis?)
* can help you lose inches ( oh hell yeah!)

Your local fitness/leisure centre will almost certainly have tennis lessons and courts you can hire. The Lawn Tennis Association have a really useful LTA website click here .Why not go and google it today and send me your pics of your tennis escapades!

Here it is......................................................Marlene's article that will change your life! (sounds gushy and american? Oh well I don't care on this occasion cos it is true!)

DIETING IS OUT – HEALTH EATING IS IN!
By Marlene Watson-Tara

Over the past 10 years in particular with all the developments on why we are ‘gaining weight’ and so many ‘silver bullet’ ‘diets’ hitting the market there has been little movement toward any improvement and many nations of the world continue to pile on the pounds. Latest polls show that British women are the fattest in Europe. Food is the Problem and Food is the Solution!
What I am going to share with you is based on solid science. What makes me different from so many of the health professionals is that my Weight Loss Nature’s Way Course is unique in that it’s about taking responsibility for your own health and that healing and weight loss starts in your own kitchen with you in charge of what you eat on a daily basis.
You simply can’t change your life, without changing your life. No matter what the latest fad crazy diet food, pills or others tell you, trust me…. The only path to sustainable weight loss and good health is by eating a wholefoods plant based diet. Anything that is new is generally not good for you, anything that is old is. I have been teaching the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Macrobiotics for over 30 years. TCM is thousands of years old, and these cultures have no weight issues until they adopt a standard western diet.
There are many books currently on the market ‘Grain Brain’ and Wheat Belly’ being two of the many that quote such dishonest information to the general public. They are big fans of meat (of course) so they demonize all grains for all people…..and tie it in with gluten problems and coeliac disease. Shocking or what!
Complex Carbohydrates are where we get our energy that sustains our life. I have counselled hundreds of people with ill health who have been eating high protein diets. The only way forward for human health, planetary health and sensibility is by adopting a wholefoods plant based diet. Pure and Simple.
Next up with his nonsense was the food writer Mark Bittman from New York who had the world in a frenzy with his article on ‘Butter is Back’ (he has been discredited from writing that article). OF course, people love to hear good news about their bad habits but you need to be up early to catch me out on all the articles that sweep the internet and create huge confusion among consumers. Weight Loss being at the top of the pile.
I have compassion and understanding that so many of us are unaware of the addictive additives laced in food and my vision and mission is to inspire as many people as I can to start learning simple home remedies and cooking techniques to take control of their weight problems and health.
I am not bogged down by an overriding ‘theory’ to prove. I teach what I teach with fun and an open mind. I have a no-nonsense approach to what works because that is what I continue to see year after year with clients who adopted this way of living.
The information I share is simple, direct and hugely effective. If you follow my advice you will be better for it and that is what I guarantee.
ARE YOUR HORMONES OUT OF BALANCE?
Hormonal balance is an important part of understanding how weight loss works and the results sustained. You can change everything you believed about dieting because hormones control your fat burning switch! There are hormones that create weight gain and hormones that keep you lean. I refer to this as having your fat burning switch in the on or off position.
There is so much cutting edge data now equating hormonal imbalance with weight problems. Eating a hormone balanced diet is the way forward to not only losing weight but also creating great health and vitality. My Weight Loss Nature’s Way programme is in line with the recommendations from organizations such as the Centre for Disease Control and the World Health Organization. In this article I am addressing two major hormones in particular – one that stores fat – and one that burns fat.
SO HOW DO YOU BURN FAT?

Insulin is the hormone responsible for allowing sugars to be used for energy. Insulin rises and falls according to blood sugar levels and is greatly influenced by what you eat. Carbohydrates are broken down in the digestive system and converted into glucose (blood sugar) to be used as energy in your body.
When glucose enters the blood stream the pancreas produces the insulin that allows the billions of cells in your body to open up and receive this energy to use for their various functions. If you eat too many refined carbohydrates such as white bread, pasta, pastries and sugar rich foods, the sugars in these foods causes a rapid rise in blood sugar. The flood of sugar stimulates pancreatic production of insulin over long periods of time. This causes your cells to remain receptive. These excess sugars are stored as fat. Normalizing insulin levels is essential to stop this storage from happening. Dramatically reducing or eliminating these ‘refined’ carbohydrates is the best way to accomplish this.
Insulin has a sister hormone, and its name is glucagon. This hormone is a critical component of your fat-burning biochemistry. When you need more energy and there is not enough glucose, glucagon is secreted. The purpose of this hormone is the exact opposite of insulin’s. Glucagon stimulates the release of stored fats to be used as energy.
Reducing the consumption of simple sugars and refined carbohydrates stimulates the production of glucagon and stimulates the burning of stored fats. If a healthy diet is combined with even moderate exercise the combination of less fat storage and better fat burning is promoted. The dietary advice below describes some of the main features of a diet that promotes hormonal balance and healthy weight loss.

Balance is the key to life at all levels. Here are some simple explanations on how to balance the four hormones that cause you to gain weight and increase the three super heroes to help us burn fat.
THE 4 FAT STORING HORMONES
TO BALANCE INSULIN
  1. Cut out refined carbohydrates
  2. Remove sugar from your diet and replace with grain syrups like rice and barley malts.

TO BALANCE ESTROGEN
  1. Cut out processed foods
  2. Increase your daily intake of fibre
  3. Cut down on coffee and alcohol
  4. Do not use a microwave
  5. BPA is an estrogen compound found in plastic cups and leaches into the food particularly when heated.
  6. Assist the body in breakdown and elimination by eating a natural foods diet

TO BALANCE CORTISOL
  1. Reduce stress in your daily life
  2. Elevated cortisol levels lead to higher insulin levels (create hunger pangs)

TO BALANCE LEPTIN
  1. Cut out MSG and all commercial seasonings
  2. Low levels of leptin signal the body to store fat
  3. Sleep well
  4. Eat slowly – chew well
  5. Increase your consumption of sea vegetables

THE 3 FAT BURNING HORMONES
TO INCREASE HUMAN GROWTH HORMONE
  1. Get a good night’s sleep - Sleep deprivation almost completely abolishes HGH production.
  2. Eat HGH Building Blocks. These include foods high in the B vitamins, like whole grains (quinoa), legumes, vegetables and proteins, and the mineral zinc which is found in seaweed.
  3. Go Organic – Many of our foods are loaded with pesticides and chemicals which lower HGH.
  4. Incorporate exercise into your daily routine. Workouts improve your body chemistry, including levels of HGH. You can dramatically slow down the aging process, increase your strength as you age and eliminate the many risks of so many diseases that come about through lack of exercise.

TO INCREASE TESTOSTERONE
  1. Eat Testosterone Builders –foods rich in beta-carotene (yellow and orange vegetables and green leafy vegetables, foods high in B vitamins and foods containing boron (fruits, nuts and legumes. All of these foods cause your body to produce more testosterone.

  2. Other testosterone boosters are amino acids. They are the building blocks of cells, antibodies, muscle tissues and enzymes.

  3. A diet high in fat alters testosterone levels. Good fats are important for keeping testosterone levels up so eating more monosaturated fats from nuts, olive oil, avocados and polyunsaturated fats is a good idea because they are burned for fuel and don’t make your fat.

  4. Caffeine and alcohol affects your testosterone levels.

TO INCREASE PROGESTERONE
  1. Progesterone enhancing foods include B vitamins in particular vitamin B6 found in beans, as well as many fruits and vegetables like avocados, spinach and tomatoes.
  2. The other key nutrient in progesterone production is magnesium. Eat plenty of organic dark green leafy vegetables, and sea vegetables, almonds, seeds, nuts and beans which are all good sources of magnesium and also keep your liver healthy.
  3. Poor liver function suppresses progesterone.

As you will see from the above it really is very simple to adopt a hormone balanced ‘diet’ into your life and alleviate weight problems for life.

  • Eat at least 3 meals a day plus 2 snacks

FOODS TO USE REGULARLY FOR BETTER HEALTH AND WEIGHT LOSS
Whole grains: Whole grains are low-calorie; complex carbohydrates that haven’t been processed or milled like white flour or white rice. This means they haven’t been robbed of their essential nutrients or dietary fibre so essential in keeping weight down.
Vegetables: Bite for bite, vegetables and whole grains provide more nutrients and fibre with fewer calories than any other food group, making it easier to control your weight.
Sea Vegetables: They are a rich source of many trace minerals. Seaweeds break down and digest slowly compared to processed foods. This actually allows hormonal balancing to occur. Research shows that seaweed is not only an amazing health food but speeds up weight loss by blocking fat intake and promotes fat burning.
Beans and Bean Products: Regular bean eaters are less likely to be overweight and have smaller waistlines than those who pass on legumes. Beans release energy slowly into the body, making them a great weight loss food. 'They are also high in protein and fibre, which satiates the appetite and helps keep you full for longer periods of time.'
Along with Fruits: Nuts and Seeds: Vegetable Oils: and the Medicinal Teas you have a winning combination.

FOODS TO REDUCE OR AVOID FOR HORMONAL BALANCE & WEIGHT LOSS
Sugar
Tropical Fruits:
Deep fried foods:
Refined grains
Highly processed foods with chemical additives:
Cheese and dairy:
Red meat, pork and chicken

My Top 3 Exotic Foods for Natural Weight Loss
Turn on Your Fat Burning Switch’
Sea Vegetables
Seaweeds break down and digest slowly compared to processed foods. Seaweeds are also nutrient density, especially minerals; contribute greatly to hormonal balance too. Research shows that seaweed speeds up weight loss by blocking fat intake and promotes fat burning. Alginate the natural fibre found in sea kelp blocks the body from absorbing fat far more effectively than anti-weight treatments currently sold over the counter. A 2010 study by Newcastle University demonstrated what has been known for centuries in the Far East – Sea Vegetables are a powerful tool for weight loss.
Shitake Mushrooms
Dried Shitake mushrooms have traditionally been used in Traditional Chinese Medicine as an aid to the immune functions of the body and for breaking down fatty tissue. Japanese researchers discovered that this is because of eritadenine, a substance that reduces cholesterol. Researchers S. Suzuki and Oshima found that a raw Shiitake eaten daily for one week lowers serum cholesterol by 12%.
Daikon Radish
This magical vegetable is superior to anything I have used for years with clients to achieve amazing results. It is a fantastic natural diuretic with a very gentle action that is excellent for managing the fluid retention that so often accompanies weight gain. The more fat cells we have, the more fluid we store. You can see me making this amazing tea using the fresh and dried version on my ‘you tube’ channel.

Marlene’s Fat Burning Tea

Daikon, Shitake and Kombu Drink
This tea helps the liver to open up and discharge smoothly.

1 dried shitake mushroom
½ cup dried daikon
1 inch strip kombu seaweed

Slice the shitake and place the ingredients into a pan. Add the water, cover and bring to a boil on a medium flame. Reduce the flame and simmer for about 15-20 minutes. Remove and discard the ingredients. Drink the tea whilst hot.

All of these ingredients are readily available in natural food stores and many supermarkets.

Thrilling Thursday - thoughts, love and support for YOU!

Helloooooooooooooooooo!

"Today.........
World cup Munch
Getting ready for Wimbledon
Weekend out and about
Workout tip
Motivation Central"

How has your week been so far?
Have you you been enjoying the odd spots of sunshine that have managed to peek through the clouds?
It has at least been dry ,weather wise, which makes it far easier to run errands on foot rather than spending a fortune on diesel for the car. Extra calories get used up, your heart and other muscles are exercised so its a win win situation oh, and the bank manager will love you! Yay!

Here in my home of Wimbledon it is really evident that the tennis starts on Monday. Yep, the pavements just outside the courts are looking shiny and the park that we aren't supposed to even cycle through is about to be turned in to a car park! So here for the next fortnight it's going to be all about strawberries, people out playing tennis, lots of happy tourists enjoying our beautiful area and double decker busses ferrying excited people to the tournament.  Its a great time here and we are really happy to welcome everyone to our wonderful borough. Let's hope they bring fab weather and lots of support for Andy Murray. Pic below is my local park where much of my walking takes place!
Happy Campers at Wimbledon Park

Will you be watching tennis?
Do you play tennis? Ever hit anyone accidentally with your racquet?!

In next weeks blog we will be looking at how to get started with tennis and find some super strawberry recipes for after your game!

It's a really busy sporty time right time. The world cup is in full swing (and Eastenders keeps coming on at unusual times), and its a time when the supermarkets start pushing all their non-food junk at us to encourage us to munch and drink as we slump on our sofas to cheer the teams on! I've got a great traditional Brazilian healthy alternative to munch your way through that will make the match a real event but give you plenty of protein and fibre to boot! (do you like my pun there?!)

1 and 1/2 tsp of ground cumin
2 tins of red kidney beans or black beans
200 -230 mls of vegetable stock
450 grammes of cooked brown rice. (I find brown basmati is gorj)
coriander fresh and chopped

Optional shopping list
Finely sliced iceberg lettuce
avocado diced
6 tomatoes diced
6 corn tortilla wraps

Method
* heat a heavy based pan and keeping it on a low flame add your diced onions and dry fry until soft. (This will sometimes appear to mark your pan at the bottom but it wipes clean so don't worry!)
* once your onion is soft add the garlic and cook for a couple of minutes to soften.
* now add your cumin along with a tbsp of water to prevent your spice burning. Add more water if required.  cook the spice out for two minutes.
* now add your drained beans and coat them in the spicy mix
* add your veg stock and bring to to a simmer.
* add your cold cooked brown rice.
* heat until  piping hot
* sprinkle with coriander
Serve.

Tip! this also makes a delicious tortilla or burrito filling along with a bit of salad, avocado and tomatoes.

Weekend Walkabout Ideas
Last weekend Rob and I went to Alfriston to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Alfriston is a stunning medieval village along the South Downs and the Pilgrims Way. There is a gorgeous riverside walk there and so much to just wander around and see. There are some great old pubs to eat too. I can highly recommend The Star. If you watched the film "The Holiday" Alfriston is where Kate Winsletts Rose Cottage is.
The Star

Alfriston Church

Stunning views along the way

We have nearly completed the South Downs Way now so joined them just outside Alfriston and took the cliff top route to Burling Gap and back - around 8 miles with a total ascent of around 1200 feet. Now that might sound strenuous but remember the terrain is up and down so you don't just do 1200 feet in one go and of course you can turn around at any time! Once you go walking in the Seven Sisters Country Park you will def revisit.
The views are stunning all the way - glistening sea one side and rolling green hills and church spires the other side. Rob and I were really struck by the amount of laughter you could here echoing on the slopes - people were out having fun with family and friends!! The other very obvious things was the wide range of age groups out walking - very young to very old.
Why not get out this weekend to your local country park or walking path and reap the rewards for your body and mind? you have got nothing to lose (apart from shaping up of course!). Click here to go to Walking Britain and discover walks where you live.

Weekend Workout Tip!
Red Grapes make the perfect mid exercise snack.
A study reported in the American Journal of Cardiology has discovered that reservatrol found in grapes can increase your endurance by 21%. (btw it doesn't work by drinking red wine!)

Motivation central
Your mantra for this weekend is:
"If I hate starting over I need to stop quitting"
www.todaysfitnesstrainer.com

Every time you feel you might be about to slip away from the health highway repeat the mantra in your head until the feeling passes.
Sounds a bit left-field? Well don't worry, no one can hear you and it does work!

I hope that you have a brilliant weekend and keep active and healthy.
